You need no ticket to make a place for yourself here where humor, black and otherwise, comes to you from the stage where the human comedy itself is being played, its performance trumping the things dark and tragic and found in the world of literature.

Everybody says "I could write a book." And sure, everybody could fill up a couple hundred pages. But with what? Probably just a record of personal events, not really a story. Would it ad up to a story in the end? The story of a life? Maybe, but more likely it would read like diary entries, a lot of little stories, rather than the big story -- the story of your life. We have to edit our lives to make them that story. Shaping our lives like an editor shapes the arc of a novel is the way to have that feeling of satisfaction one gets at the end of a good story. Be your life's editor.
